Heat exchangers can be found in both vessels and offshore installations, usually as part of engine cooling systems, or in the case of offshore applications, as part of production processes. Heat can be supplied in the form of steam, or conversely, seawater can be used as a means of coolant. Sometimes additives may be added to increase the thermal efficiency of the heat transfer, such as glycol.
